    I get this after I have upload the wordpress files with an FTP client as per step 4.

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':' in D:\Hosting\7302016\html\wp\wp-config.php on line 89

    I know it must have something to do with step 3, when I edited the config file but I re-did it and the only thing that changes the error messages is what I define in the line 89 of the config file.

    define('ABSPATH', dirname(http://somethingpretty.info/wp) . '/');

    I have also tried the following:

    define('ABSPATH', dirname(http:/somethingpretty.info/wp) . '/');

    which gives me error: 500 Internal server error

    define('ABSPATH', dirname(D:\Hosting\7302016\html\wp\) . '/');

    and I get the original syntax error message as above.

    I also tried the not editing set to see in the instal promty would ask me for my database after, and this did not work.

    I went to somethingpretty.info and that's a free site hosted by GoDaddy.
    Are you sure the domain above is correct?

    Under normal circumstances ABSPATH should not be edited at all. Note the comment above: “That's all, stop editing!”

    http://www.somethingpretty.info is my domain name, and yes, it is a free site hosted by goDaddy so I had to manually install wordpress as per the instructions.

    I didn't notice that part and fixed it. Thank tou for pointing it out.

    But I still have the gives me error: 500 Internal server error

    which makes me think that because this is a free godaddy site, it won't let me use wordpress, manually installed or not.

    Is this true?

    I don't think GoDaddy gives you a database with its free site, does it?

    Let me ask you this, are you new to databases, servers and hosting?
    And don't be embarrassed to say yes, we all started out guessing out way through.
