Error message on first form submit

When I first try to submit my form, an error message is thrown, just saying ‘there was an error trying to send you message. Please try again later.’. When I re-submit the form, then the form is being sent out properly most of the time. Sometimes I even have to try a third time.

What can be the cause of this and how can I fix it?
