Hello, it seems every few months some error like this pops up in the admin dashboard widget. Is there something I can do to prevent this so I don’t need to go through the setup over and over? Thanks!

Thanks for getting in touch, hopefully we can assist. Firstly can you share the following so we can try to determine the cause of this notice?

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
    2. Can you confirm it’s always the same message that appears, and if so did you have Site Kit setup on another domain or migrate this site at some stage?
    3. When you encountered this message previously did you perform any action for the message to no longer occur, or did this disappear randomly?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thanks for the response, James. I sent the info over.

I have site kit in use on multiple sites and domains. I have copied the site and mirrored it for dev purposes but that’s not in production.

What’s interesting is when I go to ‘redo’ the plugin setup, it send me to the staging site which I have offline at the moment. So it’s looking for the staging site and not my production site. So I can’t actually redo the plugin setup currently via the link from the plugin.

Many thanks for sharing the additional insights. From checking the details it looks like you have some plugins active which could potentially result in this notice, in particular plugins that can change member roles such as “Allow Multiple Accounts” and “Members“.

You also have a security plugin active which can apply further configuration changes with your users or change your sites Salt Keys, resulting in you having to reconnect once more.

Do you made administrator role changes much, or do you notice a pattern when this occurs (ie. After other administrators setup the plugin)? While I can’t be sure of the exact cause what you may wish to do is check your sites error logs for any Site Kit related error after this occurs the next time. To do so you’ll need to enable debugging.

    Thanks for the insight.

I have run into this issue on different sites and servers, with different sets of plugins. It seems in this instance it was corrupted when we ran a mirrored site with the same configuration on a different domain — it breaks both sites in this case.

In other instances with sites that don’t have as many changes this issue pops up sporadically. Not sure what the pattern is yet — perhaps a cookie flush on my machine could be related. No salt keys have been changed.

I’ll try to reinstall the plugin to get the dashboard display functional again.

Appreciate you sharing the additional insights. Mirrored sites could indeed result in such behaviour, in particular if you cloned a site with Site Kit connected or the URLs on the Site Kit service didn’t match.

If you’re mirroring sites or testing on another domain before you clone any site you may wish to reset Site Kit first (Tools > Site Health > info > Copy site info to clipboard). This will ensure all URL records on the Site Kit service are removed.

Note that if you do reset all previously connected Site Kit modules will need to be connected once more, and all users previously connected will have to setup the plugin once more.

Let me know how you get on anyway, or if you have any questions with the above.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
