• I’ve been having a lot of problems lately with publishing and updating content on my site. I keep getting a “page not found” error. I’ve tried just about everything and still haven’t resolved the problem. I just checked one of my error logs and found the following:
PHP Warning: chmod() [<a href='function.chmod'>function.chmod</a>]: No such file or directory in...
Does anyone have any idea what this means??

  • When you edit or add content, can you preview the page/post?
If so have you tried setting permalinks to default?

I’d take the php warning up with your webhost, they can probably advise you best.

I spent about 30 minutes talking with them today about this problem and didn’t get anywhere.
And the weird thing is, it’s just one computer that I’m having the problem on.
I just can’t work it out. I even formatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows (I’m using xp) but it didn’t make any difference.

Then you should troubleshoot XP , not WP 😉

hmm so you’re talking about a local machine. You host your own website on your own computer?

No, I don’t host my own website, I use Hostgator. I realize the problem is with my computer but it just doesn’t make sense to me that I should still be having these issues after everything I’ve done.
So now I’m formatting the hard drive again but using another copy of windows. However, I can’t say I’m all that hopeful of a successful resolution to this problem.

Ok, so let me try to understand this.

1)Your site is hosted with hostgator.
2)You can edit your site and publish but on one specific computer you’re having problems.

This wasnt clear to me from your original post which is why I was focussing on the wordpress install.

This looks like a problem specific for your pc.

Let us know if a reinstall fixed it for you.

Yes, that’s correct. Actually, I already did one reinstall but I was still couldn’t publish content but was using the same computer for months before without any problems at all. Anyway, still working on it…

This time, instead of doing a clean install, I used a system image of my PC from before I began having having any issues with wordpress. However, after doing that I still have the exact same problem which wasn’t entirely unexpected.

Anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this?
