I’m having the same problem. Tried the automatic and manual installation, same error.
I managed to fix it. Disable all your plugins, then uninstall Wordfence.
When I told it to remove all files too, it wouldn’t let me, so I just deactivated it instead. Once deactivated, uninstall it.
Log out, clear your browser cache and urge any CDN you use. Log back in, reinstall and then go through adding a new license.

Ok,my issue was that Rackspace hosting company had or have a major blackout and I was not getting email with the manual key activation, I finally got it and that was all for that crying baby…lol
I have been using Wordfence since they were born and let me tell you all that is the best security plugin ever, hell I’ve been kicked out myself here and there and my site is been used by hacker schools from all over the world as a training site but they can’t break the login. I have even masked the wp-login.php to a different URL but somehow they find it and attack that url with a vengeance….no cigar you Chinese,Russians and all of them mofos hackers. Kudos to Wordfence.
Thanks for letting us know. In case anyone else has this problem we recommend that you try
Check your Spam folder
Verify the spelling and email address provided are correct
Make sure your email mailbox isn’t full
Retry with an alternate email account
Reach out to your hosting provider to ensure they aren’t blocking anything from the wordfence.com domain.
