I think you need to call AWS for help first. This looks like a server issue or maybe a setup issue if this is a new install.
Either way, AWS should be able to help you.
If not come back here with as much info as you can find so we’ll know where to start.
Thank you. My developer normally provides the support not AWS, so trying to upgrade the support package as my developer is on annual leave.
In the meantime Cloudfare sent me this.

I cannot find my way around AWS at all to update wp-congig.php
Can someone point me in the right direction?
It’s been quite a while since I’ve been into AWS and I know things have changed there. I wouldn’t know where to start and we have no access to AWS and your accounts and servers there.
I’m thinking this is a server issue there so your best bet is to ask them for help. If the WordPress was running we might be able to help you via the WordPress facilities but since the database is down you need help with what appears to be a possible server issue.
Please contact AwS support.
And I saw you were on Cloudflare but your error is coming from your server and not Cloudflare itself.
There’s a chat window there somewhere if you need to use that.

Thank you for that. I remembered we needed ro purge the cache once when we had a similar error. Thought I would check whilst waiting for contact. AWS seems to be a support glitch. I have upgraded but still don’t yet have access to support. No access to chat and no phone number. So I am completely stuck. I’ll just have to wait for my developer to pick up my messages. I am completely lost with this. 🙁
I’m sorry I can’t help you further… It’s possible that flush might clear the problem but I’m not real hopeful on that and I wouldn’t know how to flush the cache on the Nginx box if that’s what is running there.
Normally, if it’s just a cache issue it should clear itself. And sometimes you can force the issue by navigating deeper into the site. I did try that though and I still see the database issue message.
Keep an eye on this topic though in case someone else knows something I don’t and offers a good suggestion.
