When I try and run the install I see:
    Error Establishing Database Connection,
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost

I copied down all of my info from Godaddy during setup. I know that this info is correct and I’ve tried the install three different times too. Am I missing something here? Do I need to do something using phpmyadmin?

    Thanks in advance!

  • hi

Within wp-confog.php, GoDaddy requires a hostname of something other than the default “localhost”. You will find that info in the database section of your hosting account.

    The Host Name is:
    minutekiller.db.4987984.hostedresource.com

I switched it up in wp-config.php still seeing the same error. I get the feeling it is something really closely related to this. Sooo close!

You might go back into the database admin and doublecheck the database name and database user. Some systems add a prefix to the ones you entered. Also doublecheck your database password because they are often gibberish characters.

    Crikey, I’m an idiot!

The problem was that I had setup a free hosting account and apparently wordpress does not work with the GoDaddy linux free hosting accounts. I repeat,

Godaddy and WordPress Install will not work with the free hosting accounts over at Godaddy. Even if you are using the linux server. I had the wp-config correct. The only reason I knew this was because I called tech support. Hopefully the next chap will be able to find this WordPress-Go daddy-install thread before having to spend 20 minutes on hold like me.

thanks for coming back and resolving it

Hi – Guess I wasn’t thinking today, because I know that GoDaddy free hosting doesn’t work with WordPress. Often I ask people having GoDaddy issues if they are on free hosting, but I didn’t think of that earlier.

Glad to know you got it working.
