  • I’m having trouble creating the configuration file. Everything is loaded up to my host and is in the right place. The MySQL database has been created and I know that I have the right database name, username, password, etc. and still it gives me the same error over and over that it cannot connect. I have no Idea what could possibly be wrong if I have all the right info and I can access the database fine from Godaddy. Is it that I am using windows OS and not linux?

thanks SOOOO much if you can help!!!

  • I am having the same problem adn I thougth I knew what I was doing. I set up a different Word Press account yesterday and after a lot of tinkering I got it to work, but I cannot repeat it today.
It is accepting the configuration I enter as the message changes to you are about to install the site, but then I get:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    Please help.

Jennifer – did you change the localhost to the SQL database address?

Is it that I am using windows OS and not linux

That has nothing to do with it. If you’re on a linux server at godaddy you are good to go.
Did you change the db host from localhost in wp-config.php? Also, at godaddy db name and db user are the same.

I’m not really sure what it means to change the Localhost to the SQL database address. My gdaddy DB name and db user were the same, I did gather that much. BUT I did figure out the problem…well one problem at least…I contacted Godaddy and they said that Godaddy does not allow it’s user to install applications of this sort themselves. So godaddy had to do it for me. Sort of depressing because I thought I might learn something from it. But for future reference, Godaddy will install it for you! Go to manage hosting accounts, then go to godaddy hosting connection and then from there, install wordpress! It will walk you through each step.

No you can install wordpress your self on godaddy hosting. You just have to know what samboll was talking about. When your in your database manager it should say the name of the database server which is the value you need to fill in. Your also probably going to have nothing but headaches with that automated installer.
