Support » Installing WordPress » Error establishing a database connection

  • Hello,

    Just now,
After the install of WP in my site when i try to access it shows me this information / screen:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

-Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
-Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
-Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Please someone help me to fix this.

  • Hi ttsales

When installing WordPress you will need to have installed a database on your site along with a database user and password. The db user will have to have all privileges set. During WordPress installation you will be asked for all these items and these will be added into your wp-config.php file.

Often there will extra things to remember for naming conventions; for example if you are hosting your sites under ttsales the database name and user will be prefixed with ttsales_.

It seems a bit complex at first but after a while you will get used to it.
    Hope this helps

My thinking here is that you have not yet fully setup your WordPress site as Dave suggested above. This link might be helpful:
