Support » Installing WordPress » Error Establishing a Database Connection

  • Hello, I’m new to wordpress.org and the forums, so thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions. I am moving my wordpress.com site over to wordpress.org and I think I have taken all the necessary steps to set up my new site, pointsforgood.org, with DreamHost. I have followed the detailed instructions laid out by wordpress.org but I’m stuck here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Wo…all_Script
I have used FileZilla to load all of my wordpress files onto my site but when I go to http://pointsforgood.org/wp-admin/install.php I get the following error message:

    “Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql.pointsforgood.org. This could mean your host’s database server is down.”

I’m pretty new to this stuff and I am just totally confused at how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!
