Error Establishing a Database Connection (4 posts)

Hello, I'm new to wordpress.org and the forums, so thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions. I am moving my wordpress.com site over to wordpress.org and I think I have taken all the necessary steps to set up my new site, pointsforgood.org, with DreamHost. I have followed the detailed instructions laid out by wordpress.org but I'm stuck here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Wo...all_Script
I have used FileZilla to load all of my wordpress files onto my site but when I go to http://pointsforgood.org/wp-admin/install.php I get the following error message:

    "Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql.pointsforgood.org. This could mean your host's database server is down."

I'm pretty new to this stuff and I am just totally confused at how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

First, you have to check to see if a database is created for you for your WordPress site. Assuming that your hosting uses cPanel, just login into that panel then click the "Database" icon.

If there is no database, just create one, then create a new user (copy and paste the user password somewhere), finally assign that user to the database.

Finally enter the database name, username, and password by editing the wp-config.php file.

mikem75 you dont need to follow manual install , as Dreamhost comes with the " one click install" , this should be found in Cpanel .
