Error establishing a database connection

    My website has been working perfectly for a couple of years. The other night I was considering upgrading to 2.7.1. I went into WP admin, site settings to check my WP version number and left it sitting there.

    I then went to LunarPages control panel (my hoster) in another tab (WP site settings still open) and organised for a full site backup.

    The backup completed without error, but ever since I am getting the above message whenever I go to the site or try to go into WP admin.

    I have read many of the other posts reporting this error. I have checked my wp-config file and it is correct. I have tried various versions of db admin username and password but none work. I have used MySQL and PHPAdmin in LunarPages to check the database and browse database files. They all check out OK.

    Can anyone suggest a remedy?
