I have this plugin installed on a few sites. It has worked great for a very long time, all of a sudden in the last few days every single site has given this error:
WARNING: strpos(): Offset not contained in string [02-Feb-2014 23:00:42]
ERROR: Could not generate a WordPress export file.

Any idea on how to fix? I have deactivated all the other plugins and the error still occurs.

I will look that we can make the update release asap.

Here’s something that may help others still getting this error…

On one of my site, I was getting this same error running 3.1.2 and PHP 5.4. After switching to PHP 5.3.27 via cPanel, the backup ran smoothly without the error.

Is there a known issue with PHP 5.4?

    Thanks!

    No, now know issue.

    This error persists with 3.1.2.

Error began when my hosting company upgraded to PHP 5.4.28.

I’d say you have an incompatibility issue.

    Hi Daniel,

everything seems fine with BackWPup free 3.1.3 beta 6, except dates and times are not working anymore 🙁

    here is Preview: backwpup_7140e9_2014-05-30_14-34-12.tar.gz
    here is file: backwpup_7140e9_Y-m-d_H-i-s.tar.gz

can you see why is this happening?

I like your plugin, it´s 10 times better than updraftplus, and not annoying.

Unfortunately 1und1.de has upgraded to PHP 5.4 and it made my site with this ERROR: Could not generate a WordPress export file.

does anybody else had problems with date and time?

    Annoying? Ouch!

it is not personal David, but take a look at few selling points

    backWPup FREE vs Updraftplus FREE

    1. change folder local backups are stored – I didn’t found this option in Updraftplus free

    2. Secure FTP access – not possible with Updraftplus free

    3. schedule backup jobs to run at certain times – backWPup free can do it, but Updraftplus free can’t

I have installed your plugin a few times, but still I remain to stick with backWPup even it has issues with PHP 5.4

    Thank you for understanding,
    PB

    Hi peraburek,

Thanks for the feedback. The chips always fall somewhere, and all freemium products will make different decisions. UD free edition doesn’t offer FTPES (UpdraftPlus Premium does); Backwpup free edition doesn’t offer Google Drive (BackWPUp Pro does). Which is more annoying will depend upon your needs. The option you mention in number 1. is found in UpdraftPlus in the ‘expert settings’.

    Best wishes,
    David

I’ve been getting this “could not generate WordPress export file” for as long as I can remember.

    WordPress 3.9.1
    PHP 5.4.28

    Here’s what it looks like:
    [06-Jun-2014 03:00:09] Database backup done!

[06-Jun-2014 03:00:23] WARNING: XML ERROR (5): Extra content at the end of the document

    I had the same Issue.
Switching from PHP 5.4 to 5.3 (5.3.26) fixed the problem!

eh I’m not rolling back PHP to a previous version. Hope Daniel can fix.

I can confirm the error started occurring when I upgraded from PHP 5.3 to PHP 5.4 (as required by my hosted).

Can also confirm this issue. Also i can confirm that the suggested workaround by switching PHP from 5.5 to 5.3 has helped me.

    Hi,

I seem to be getting the same error, however it doesn’t happen every time. The difference is this error is only showing up on my job I have scheduled to run early in the morning. When I go in later and click “Run the Job Now” and run it manually, it works just fine.

Any advice on this would be appreciated. Since it is working sometimes, I didn’t know if the same php error applied, from what I have read in the thread?

    Kallie

Happens pretty randomly on various sites I manage (everythings up to date) as well. From the error, it looks like the error should be reported after the third attempt fails not the first. As long as the export to XML eventually works, I don’t care about the error.
