• Help! I just switched hosts and everything was working fine until this morning. One of my blogs has started giving me this error:

“Could not access the database, please make sure that the appropriate values have been added to the configuration file included in this package.”

What does that mean? And how do I fix it? My config.php has all the right values and the MySql database is up and running.

  • I would email the host – if it was working, and now it is not, they broke something, and decency says they should tell you what it is.

So it is a host problem, not a WordPress problem?

Assuming you didn’t change anything, and accounting for the fact that you said the site had been functioning properly, I would guess that it is something your host did and not a problem with WordPress.

Update: I contacted my host and he tried a few things which almost fixed it, but nothing “really” worked. So I just decided to copy my tables into a new database and started over. No big deal.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

eureka! this error isn’t from wordpress at all.. it’s from a php referral stats package called shortstat (http://www.shauninman.com/plete/shortstat/ )
chances are you’ve got an ‘include’ line in your index.php file for shortstat, but its database isn’t happy. so either comment it out, or fix it.
