# Error Code in WordPress Update

 * One of my four installations of WordPress won’t update and produces this error
   message: _Could not copy file.: wp-includes/js/media/views/button/delete-selected-
   permanently.js_ .
 * I’ve disabled ALL plugins and still won’t update. Tried using my current theme(
   Kelly from Automattic) and Stargazer (from Justin Tadlock). Also, using my current
   WordPress version 4.2-alpha-31735, my Visual Editor and the TinyMCE toolbars
   are missing.
 * This is part of my error code: _Warning: copy(/home/shapeshifter3/public\_html/
   shapeshifter3.com/wp-includes/js/media/views/button/delete-selected-permanently.
   js): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/shapeshifter3/public\_html/
   shapeshifter3.com/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 231_
 * Is this a WordPress Core problem, OR a Permission change I need to make on my
   server?

 * I forgot:
 * I also tried disabling ALL of my plugins and updating through the default WordPress
   Twenty Fifteen theme…same error messages.

 * Contacted a support rep for my Hosting Provider and they tried the same things
   above, directly from the server side. The supposed “Permission denied” didn’t
   show up on their end, AND that particular file has the same permission code as
   any other files in the folded.
 * I do have a Full Backup for this particular installation, BUT I need to know
   which individual folder/file combo to restore. I don’t want to restore the entire
   website if necessary, because of the time involved.
 * Any suggestions from any Core Developers?

 * This looks like an odd file permissions issue on your server.
 * I would recommend manually deleting the file via FTP, and then visiting the Dashboard-
   > Updates menu in WordPress and clicking the ‘Re-install Now’ button. This will
   re-download the core WordPress files, replacing the file you’ve deleted.

 * Mr. Blackbourn,
    Thank you for your response!
 * Before I proceed, I would like to verify some things:
 * 1. If I delete that one file from cPanel on my server, will my site shut down
   or just not display.
 * 2. After I do that, I can then log in to my admin panel on my home machine right?
 * 3. In the Dashboard’s WordPress Updates page, I currently have only two buttons:**
   Update Now** and **Download nightly build** .
 * 4. Were you just using a different terminology, OR will my **Update Now** button
   change to **Re-install Now** ?
 * 5. If I do this: WHAT BECOMES OF MY CONTENT? Do I have to rebuild any of it?

 * Hi,
 * Your site will keep functioning as intended, this is just a JavaScript file used
   in the back end.
 * Using the Update Now button will be what you are looking for in this case, that
   is correct, and all of your content etc will remain, this function will just “
   re-install” all the WordPress core files so much like an update would.

 * Just in case anybody else reads this thread:
 * I did NOT have to delete any files from my host server. I just changed the permission
   code to allow access, and then updated my WordPress installation through the
   Admin Panel.
 * All is right with the world, now.
