When we installed NextGen, the site was not yet live, and had a url that included ‘/wordpress’. When we went live, we changed it, but left ‘/wordpress’ in the ‘WordPress Address’ in General Settings (http://www.ecosacramento.net/wordpress), while the Site Address is set to http://www.ecosacramento.net.

Apparently, NextGen is not dealing with this. We get a ‘404 Not Found’ error when trying to use the NextGen Gallery button in the editing window. For example, on one post, it says:

The requested URL (/wordpress/nextgen-attach_to_post?id=1058) was not found on this server.

I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin. I also looked in the database, but can’t find any references in the plugin’s entries referring to the old url.

Is the plugin just using the ‘WordPress Address’ in General Settings as its reference point for the button? How can I fix this?

    Thank you.

Great question @jamminjames – sounds like the plugin may be storing some old URL strings in its temporary cache. Try running the reset tool under Gallery > Other Options > Misc. Run that, and then clear the image cache and let me know if that helps.

    Sorry, that did not work.

Btw, if I try the Nextgen Gallery button in a new post, the error is: “The requested URL (/wordpress/nextgen-attach_to_post) was not found on this server.”

@jamminjames – Would you mind submitting this as a bug report here, we’d like to take a closer look at what may be happening, resetting should have sorted that out: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ Thanks!

Okay, figured it out. It was a conflict with certain All In One WP Security plugin settings.

Using either of these causes the problem:
    Block Spambot Comments
    5G Blacklist Firewall Rules

    So I’ve turned those off.

Any idea why those settings would conflict with NextGEN’s button?

@jamminjames – Without looking at that plugins code specifically, I can’t be sure, but it isn’t uncommon for some security plugins to break uploads / gallery displays, etc. They add script to the .htaccess and sometimes it can even lock you out from your own site. The .htaccess file is very sensitive. So, I suspect that the firewall rules specifically is what triggered the error. You might check out Bulletproof Security as a possible alternative to that plugin you were using. I have it installed to all of my own personal sites and love it! 🙂 I need to add a disclaimer that I’m not recommending it, these are third-party plugins of course, and they can change at anytime. 😉
