# Error calling function add_global_groups() wp-includes/cache.php

 * On updating to 6.0.1, I am getting a Fatal Error.
 * The upgrade required the database to be upgraded and this has trashed the site.
 * I have installed a clean install of WordPress, but which uses the site’s database(
   post upgrade) and the error persists, so I’m pretty sure that the problem is 
   database related.
 * Errors in /var/log/nginx/error.log are the same as displayed on the website:

 * There are no errors in /var/log/mysql/error.log
 * This site is my own, so I’m not too worried about it.
 * However, I do have a couple of commercial domains that need to be upgraded, though,
   and I’m very wary about updating them until I know what caused this outage.

 * [@dgcov](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dgcov/) I’m sorry to hear about 
   the database update causing issues on your WordPress website. Are you by chance
   being hosted on Pantheon? I did a Google search and saw a [similar issue mentioned](https://github.com/pantheon-systems/wp-redis/issues/234),
   but unfortunately, there wasn’t a solution.
 * I’d recommend checking to see if this is an issue due to a plugin/theme. It could
   be that a plugin needs to be updated or doesn’t work with the changes to 6.0.1.
   You could try disabling all plugins and see if that resolves the issue and if
   it does, enable them one by one until the problem returns.
 * You could also try repairing the database. If you go to /wp-admin/maint/repair.
   php on your site it’ll walk you through how to repair your database and hopefully
   get it back running as normal.

 * Thanks for your input.
 * I am running a ubuntu 20.4 server on a South African VPS.
 * All plugins and themes were removed and a new WP installed, but using the database
   from the old site, but the problem persists, so I don’t think it’s the plugins
   or themes (only using the default theme, anyway).
 * I can’t login to the site (the error message is on all pages), so the repair 
   option is a non-starter.

 * Ok, I don’t know how it happened, but it appears that my site is back up.
 * Baffling.
