Hi, I tries to update your plugin from version 2.3.1. to version 2.4.1. but when the update is done I am getting this message on the screen:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/cromet/public_html/test/wp-content/plugins/wp-smushit/lib/class-wp-smush-png_jpg.php on line 481

So I treid to download the previous version 2.4. but I get the message again:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/cromet/public_html/test/wp-content/plugins/wp-smushit/lib/class-wp-smush-png_jpg.php on line 481

    Can you please help me?
    Thanks in advance Gabi

  • Hi @gabihrv,

What is your PHP version? Is it below PHP 5, the error points at the function array_walk_recursive which is well supported by PHP 5+ and PHP 7.

So unless you have PHP version below 5, it should be working fine for you.

    Cheers

Hi Umesh, I have a similar problem.
The line in the error message is the same but a different link:Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/www/4cecec400380a6bb800c4c9a841ff09d/web/newblog/wp-content/plugins/wp-smushit/lib/class-wp-smush-png_jpg.php on line 481

First time an update has created a problem and now my whole site is down!!!

    Sorry, submitted too quickly!
Not only is my website down but I can’t get into it as admin to make any changes!

When I click on my dashboard I get the same error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/www/4cecec400380a6bb800c4c9a841ff09d/web/newblog/wp-content/plugins/wp-smushit/lib/class-wp-smush-png_jpg.php on line 481

This is really serious guys, I’m losing money by the second.
How can I revert to previous version if I can’t get in as admin?

@denysedd, Can you login to your FTP and go to wp-content/plugins/ folder and delete
“wp-smushit” folder from there. That way your site will be back.

If you are not aware of that, can you contact us via: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact
Select “I’ve a different question” from drop down
In Subject add “Attn. Umesh Kumar”

Add a link to this thread in the message field and send it over, I’ll take it further from there.

    Thanks

@gabihrv, Sorry, the issue might be if you are using PHP 5.2 as well.

Can you quickly check and post the PHP version you’re on?

Is it PHP 5.2 or below that?

    Thanks

Hi, the PHP version om my server is 5.2.17

@gabihrv, I’m working on a PHP 5.2 compatibility fix, and we plan to have a release soon for that.

Thanks, I asked my hosting company to install the new version of PHP to my server.
Your support is great and very fast, thanks again.
    Best regards, Gabi

And @denysedd, I suggest you to make a test copy of your site so every new update of the themes and plugins are tested on the test site, without crashing your original site.
    It worked for me 🙂

Hey gabihrv sounds like a plan.
I’m just about to update my website next month, so I’ll make sure I do that with the new one. Never happened before thank goodness, as I have no ongoing support – can’t afford it once I’ve paid the redesign every few years 😉

    Good decision 🙂

    @gabihrv, @denysedd,

Just so you know, or anyone else visiting this thread, there is a new release available WP Smush 2.4.2 for PHP 5.2 Compatibility.

    Cheers
