Hi, I’m experiencing a problem with a 500 Error, it show up only on two pages: [site]/wp-admin and [site]/wp-login.

I can access other pages in the admin panel without any problem, i.e. [site]/wp-admin/options-general.php or [site]/wp-admin/edit.php , but the main dashboard page and the login page both have this problem.

In order to login, I can type the URL of one of the wp-admin subpages like the ones mentioned above, in this case I’m presented with the login form and I can correctly enter the admin panel. Everything else works just fine, it is more of an annoyance than other, but I’d like to fix this.

What can possibly be the cause of this odd problem? How can I try to solve it?

Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins.

Thank you, the server log had the relevant information.

It was a problem of wrong permissions (pretty much like in the 90% of the problems 😀 ).

    Thank you for your help
