ERROR 404 On First Login

    I’ve seen this error writeen up a few times but suggestions don’t match what I am experiencing. Am sure it is a simple fix for a knowledgeable person. I have installed xampp on windows, set up the data base and edited the wp configuration. But when I try to load localhost/blog/wp-admin/install.php I get a 404 error. When I look in the apache error log, apache has changed my input to c:/xampp/htdocs/blog

    ALL THE STUFF BELOW IS DOCUMENTATION

    Apache Error Log:
    [Wed Apr 20 12:48:10 2011] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] File does not exist: C:/xampp/htdocs/blog

    Apache httpd.conf File:
    ServerRoot “/xampp/apache”
    DocumentRoot “/xampp/htdocs”

    IE 8 Address Entry:
    http://localhost/blog/wp-admin/install.php

    Windows Shortcut that confirms directories:
    C:\xampp\blog\wp-admin\install.php

    IE 8 (Apache) Error Message:
    Object not found!
    The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.
    If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
    Error 404
    localhost
