Support » Localhost Installs » Error 404 after local installation of existing website

  • Resolved ktib

I have a live website that I would like to install locally. I looked for tutorials, but those i found explain how to install a new wordpress, and what i need is to install an existing website, so i did the best i could (i’ve been struggling for 3 hours now), but apparently it was not good enough.

    – I installed Xampp, ran apache and mysql.
    – Entered PHPmyadmin, created a new database and imported the one from my website.
    – Copied the www of my ftp to xampp/htdocs

Now if I try to access http://localhost/nameofmydatabase, I can see my website with its theme, widgets, etc, but with an error 404. If I click on a link, i get redirected to the live version of the website.

I suppose it’s a simple parameter to change or a line of code to add, but I have no idea what to do, and I don’t find the solution on Google.
It could also be something I did wrong, but I’m completely lost here (otherwise I wouldn’t be bothering you with this)

    Thank you in advance
