Title: Error 404 Last modified: August 24, 2016 --- # Error 404 * [kmj](https://wordpress.org/support/users/kmj/) * (@kmj) * [11 years, 3 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-404-476/) * Hi there, * I just upgraded to the latest version on Moesia, but am encountering a problem: I can see my front page, but when I click on any of the other pages in the menu, I get the following error (I am translating from the message which appears in French): * Error 404 – Not found This file was not found. This could be a technical error. Please try again later. If you cannot access this file after a few tries, it means it has been deleted. * What is strange is that the pages still exist, as does the menu… I even deleted the pages and menu and rebuilt them, but they still showed the same error message. I also imported types once again (which may have been totally useless but felt like a very professional thing to do. I followed your instructions, WPyogi, but it doesn’t seem to change anything. I set permalinks to default settings and now it is working. Below is message in franch when you try to change settings. Basicly it means that WP don’t have permision to write to .htaccess file and you should do it manualy. * > Si vous aviez les droits en écriture sur le fichier .htaccess, nous pourrions > faire cela automatiquement. First of all, thanks for the info. I read [this](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions) and then found the .htaccess file with filezilla and changed the numeric values to 666 (which, if I understand correctly, I should change back to 644 when the site is finished). * But I am having another problem, although it may be unrelated (if it turns out it is, I can start a new thread): none of my page edits seem to save. * I read [here](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-save-page-edits?replies=11) about similar issues, but two things make me a little hesitant to try this. First, the post is 6 years old 🙁 Second, I DO have a .htaccess file, but it is not IN my wp-admin folder. If WP installation is in separate folder look inside it. You can always download and open file to check it if it have lines like * ``` # BEGIN WordPress # END WordPress ``` * then it is the right one. **On hosting account you can have multiple .htaccess files for different things.** * If problem with saving persist you should contact your hosting provider about it. They usually resolve these kind of things for you.
