• I’m completely new to WordPress and am trying to learn it through a video guide on Lynda.com I’ve followed all of the steps so far (registered at Dreamhost, FTP’d the WordPress files through, etc) but all I’m getting is an Error 404 when I try and visit my site through my browser, the video said I should find the 5-minute installation page.

I’ve tried the manual install by editing the wp-config-sample.php file and still no luck. Can anybody point out where I might be going wrong? I’ve had a little confusion with figuring out all the info required for FTP (Database name, Host, etc) but after some trial and error I think I have it right, although this may be where I’m going wrong.

    Thanks.

    Have you reviewed Installing_WordPress?

I just looked, it gives me the same instructions as the video I am learning from. I’m still getting the Error 404 message.

alexatack – What’s your domain name? Maybe we can see something obvious 🙂

    my domain name is alex-atack.com

    thanks

Where exactly did you install WordPress on that domain?

I’m not sure I understand the question. Sorry, you’ll have to bear with me – its the first time I’ve done this.

I signed into the FTP server and made a new directory in the remote site column titled ‘here’, then copied all the folders from the WordPress folder on my computer that I had downloaded from WordPress.com.
