* hey everyone,
* i install the plugin in wordpress and want to connect to my mailchimp account.
if i press the “connect” button a new side open.
then i insert my username and
passwort and click login.
* after this i get this message:
* error!
* POST to [http://localhost/……](http://localhost/……);. failed with 404:
404 Not
Found Not Found
The requested URL /……. was
not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) Server at
localhost Port 80
* can anyone help me or fix this problem or is it only possible to connect to mailchimp
if the webside is on a online hoster (now its localhost)?

* Thanks so much for getting in touch! I’m happy to help.
* Our plugin does require being on an active internet-connected server rather than
a local server in order to run normally. However, if you’d like you can try Developer
Mode, which will allow you to see it in action in order to work on appearance
before enabling the plugin on a live site. We have an article on getting that
set up here:

a little more information.
Where in the wordpress admin area are you seeing
this error? What is the exact text of the error? Just add that to your reply.
If the error contains sensitive data, you can email it to wordpress[at]mailchimp[
dot]com And reply in the forum so we will know to look out for it.

* Hi Mailchimp!
* I’m seeing this error after I attempt to connect my mail chimp account.
* from the plugin setting page I hit connect which launched a new window which
has my mail chimp creeds pre-populated from my machines keychain. I know these
creeds work since I’ve checked in multiple browsers and even a copy of chrome
where I never log into mail chimp.
* Upon clicking connect I get the error
* “error!

failed with 401: 401 Authorization Required Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document
requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or
your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.

p>Additionally, a 401 Authorization Required error was encountered while trying
to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. ”
* I’m wondering if this is due to my domain being password protected. I’m going
to disable that and try again.
* I’ve changed some of the string to XXXXXXX just in case.

* and yep deactivating password protection to my domain allows the plugin to work
properly.

* Hey Drew,
* Thanks for getting back to us. It would make sense for the password protection
on the domain to cause the plugin to run into trouble. During the authorization
process the authorization server requests information from the server separate
from the initial data pushed with the authorization request, and if it finds
it can’t get the necessary response the process will fail. If the plugin is currently
being set up in a “live” dev environment kept private using domain credentials,
one possible recommendation is trying the Developer Mode for the plugin until
the page is ready to go public.
