entry as main page

i am thinking of writing my blog with the latest entry as the main page. would i just add in the comment code under the entry, without the link to the comment page, and then use the nav code for previous entries? i haven’t used this long enough to understand how archives work…i don’t see archives in my site the way i used to in MT.
