Try switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. You may need to access /wp-login.php to get this to kick in fully.
Once you have access again, re-upload a fresh copy of your theme.
You can use your ftp client or the file manager in your hosts control panel if you like, to reverse the edits you made to the functions.php file, or you can replace the file with a copy from your last backup.
Hi Esmi – the /wp-login.php page is blank as well!
Hi ClaytonJames – I am going to try that now – I am really basic with this ftp using the file manager – was just making changes as per very specific guidelines 🙁 Will keep you posted
You do not need to login to your site to use FTP! When people offer advice, please try reading both it and any links it contains first.
Hi Esmi,
Sorry to have offended you, but I replied after visiting the ftp site link. As you can see from my post,I AM REALLY BASIC with ftp stuff. I have never used it – it does not make any sense to me on a normal day. And today the site has crashed. I have ONLY ever updated the site using wordpress admin. I have just downloaded cyberduck, but have no idea how to find my “ftp server” it asks for. And no, I don’t have any email from the hosting company with details (I am doing this for a friend who is more basic than me when it comes to all this)
Thanks anyway
You will need to contact the hosting company to obtain FTP login details or details of any file management application on your friend’s hosting account. There is nothing else we can do here to help you. Telling us again that you cannot logion to the Admin area won’t help. We know that. We’ve given you the only solution.
I think you should read your replies before posting as well. I did not reiterate that the admin page was blank in my last post. I wrote to you twice at the beginning only to clarify what /wp-login.php page I was visiting.
Again, as I said, I wrote to you twice just to clarify which page I meant when I said it went blank. Sorry, I don’t have your level of expertise, I would have needed clarification myself if someone just said “admin” page was blank and gave links to a site that does not have “admin” in it’s address. Sorry, was just trying to be specific, because, obviously, I have not had the problem before. Hence I am asking for “help and support”. THANKS

Don’t I know that you can’t do anything else….. it’s quite loud and clear. FYI, your solution wasn’t the only solution. Thanks though, it’s been resolved.
