    Hello WordPress team,

I appreciate the continuous improvements to the WordPress platform. I’d like to suggest an enhancement to the Media Library’s search functionality.

    Current Challenge:
As of now, the Media Library search primarily indexes the Title and Filename of media items. This limitation poses challenges for users who:

    • Rely on Alt Text, Captions, or Descriptions to organize and identify media.
    • Manage large media libraries where filenames may not be descriptive.
    • Aim to maintain accessibility standards by properly utilizing alt text.

    Proposed Solution:
Expand the Media Library search capabilities to include:

    1. Alt Text: Facilitates locating images based on accessibility descriptions.
    2. Captions: Helps in identifying images through their displayed captions.
    3. Descriptions: Allows users to search through detailed information about media items.

    Benefits:

    • Improved Accessibility: Encourages the use of alt text by making it a searchable field.
    • Enhanced User Experience: Simplifies the process of finding specific media items.
    • Efficient Content Management: Assists users in managing and organizing large media libraries effectively.

I believe this enhancement would significantly benefit content creators, developers, and site administrators by streamlining media management and promoting best practices in accessibility.

Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I think it would be good if you could place these in the Core Trac so that developers can evaluate them directly and even edit them if necessary. Maybe even a part of it is already in the works. Just create a ticket here: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/
