Hi, I installed and activated both Polylang and Lingotek. My site is in English and English was automatically added as a language with the following url: http://sisterhoodagenda.com/en. However, the site breaks and this url goes to a blank blog page as the home page.

I had to deactivate both plugins to get my site back.

I want to keep sisterhoodagenda.com in English as it is currently displayed and add the option to translate pages and posts to other languages in the main menu.

The theme authors informed me that this site is compatible with your plugin as a “Translation Ready” site:

“Tired of translating strings of text inside each template file? We use translation files. Just edit one file and you are good to go.”

What do you suggest? Thank you!

    Hi

What do you want as homepage URL for your default language? http://sisterhoodagenda.com/en or http://sisterhoodagenda.com ?

    sisterhoodagenda.com

In Polylang settings check “Hide URL language information for default language”.

But you must assign a language to your content (posts, pages …) to avoid the 404 error.

Thank you very much for the guide.

I followed the steps for the home page translations and only published the Home Page in Spanish with the language switcher to see how it works before adding all of the pages to the different language menus. I have to select + and translate the pages from the Pages dashboard before adding them to the different menus, correct?

The page shows as translated in the dashboard (with a check mark), however, the page is not actually translated. I think that I messed up by “uploading the source” to that page, not sure. I thought the language would be translated for the home page.

Did you create your english home page by the Pages > Add New or by your theme setting?

    Which theme do you use?

    Thread Starter SisterhoodAgenda

    (@sisterhoodagenda)

I created the english home page by cloning my existing home page and renaming it. I use Hugo theme by CSS Igniter.

    Thanks.
Could you check that you have well checked “A static page (select below)” and select your english home page (in Settings > Reading)?

Did you translate yourself (manually) the spanish content of your spanish home page, or thanks to Lingotek?

    Thread Starter SisterhoodAgenda

    (@sisterhoodagenda)

Yes, “static page” is selected. I did not do the translation-I thought it was automatic! So, I see the issue.

I really do not know what I am doing with your plugin, unfortunately. How do I do the Lingotek translation? I already have it installed and activated.

How do I do the Lingotek translation?

You have a very good tutorial for Lingotek in Translation > Tutorial.

Ok, one issue that is making me rethink using your plugin is that it made it impossible to quick edit my categories on the dashboard. Do you have a solution to this issue?

In Posts > Categories, WordPress give you the possibility to “Quick edit” your category. This option doesn’t appear?

    Thread Starter SisterhoodAgenda

    (@sisterhoodagenda)

I usually use quick edit to edit my post categories under Posts. The option is there, but my categories are all missing. When I deactivate your plugin, things go back to normal.

Did you assign a language for each category?
