# Encoding issue for Paypal redirect

 * Dear,
 * I found out a weird encoding problem from wooCommerce PayPal payment gateway 
   which causes error message and can’t redirect to PayPal for payment. I think 
   this is a problem for most of the wooCommerce versions, I had upgraded the wordpress
   from 3.81 to 3.91 but the problem still exists.
 * The problem is caused from the text (like space or special characters) of product
   title. The problem will disappear if we delete some text from the product title
   but those words appears to other posts as well.
 * The following two products are caused by the words or Webber Nature®. When it’s
   deleted, it seems works fine.

 * This product seems like caused by the space between the product title, when the
   space is deleted. It would work fine.

 * Originally, thinking it’s caused from WPML and the team figured out it’s probably
   from wooCommerce itself through a pure WP + wooCommerce. Please find more details
   about the thread I raised. Hope this bug can be fixed as soon as possible because
   the client’s website has gone live already. And some clients report this issue
   when paypal can’t go through. Thanks a lot!

 * Hey please turn off the “Use form submission method” option.
    With the option
   disabled all works fine.

 * The update version doesn’t solve the problem after I test. It will still generate
   this bundle of codes and can’t proceed to PayPal checkout. that’s it’s not going
   to redirect to the PayPal page at all. Is it solvable?? Please take a look, let

 * Thanks for your prompt reply. The client is now using bank transfer, COD and 
   PayPal. Other payment methods are all working fine and it only happens to PayPal
   as it need to pass the form to PayPal. We noted that this doesn’t happen to English
   checkout for PayPal.
 * WPML team had tested and figured out this is encoding problem should be caused
   from wooCommerce itself. The following is the thread about this bug:

 * After report the issue to PayPal support team, they got the follow comment, I
   hope all these could be helpful for fixing this bug. Thanks!
 * “If their payment team confirm that it is encoding problem, please make sure 
   the all characters that pass to PayPal is UTF-8 and urlencode by PHP and make
   sure that ‘Language Encoding’ in your account is UTF-8.”

   the merchant.”

 * Yes, it seems happen to non-English languages and the error pattern is unpredictable.
   If this problem is unsolvable, I think I really need to consider whether using
   wooCommerece as I’m afraid clients will come back to complain for this. This 
   will definitely affect their business and content management.
 * For me this problem mainly happens to PayPal payment gateway, I will probably
   try other PayPal plugins, see if can be fix this problem. Hope wooCommerce team
   can solve it as soon as possible cos multi-languages has been very common for
   shopping cart now.

   to recode it show and error “Conversion Error: URIError: URI malformed”
 * This might cause problem with paypal that don’t understand the information
