Support » Plugin: Check and Enable GZIP compression » Enabling plugin doesn’t stick

For some reason when I press the enable button, the GZIP isn’t actually enabling even though the success message shows. If I go back into the settings, it’s back to the “GZIP is not enabled” message. Running tests on GZIP testing sites shows it really isn’t being enabled. What gives?

Site is live on a real domain.

Here is the debug info on the success message:
    isApache: 1 (Apache)
    enabled: 1
    enabled-htaccess: 1
    plugin: 1.1.11

    Hi davy,

And what if you try without htaccess mode?

    Eric

I’m not sure what you mean.

I’ve found that turning it on and off a few times and deleting htaccess (and then refreshing permalinks) before turning it on again does the job about half the time. Occasionally I’ll also find that the plugin says that it is disabled, but htaccess shows it’s on.

When you don’t check the htaccess method, the plugin tries to enable gzip via php. It might be that the htaccess rules don’t do the trick on your server. What’s your website?
