 * Every time I go to enable Async JavaScript in the settings and save it defaults
   back to disabled. I had this working for a day, ran a speed test on Uptrends,
   and then noticed that it would no longer stay active. I do see that this plugin
   hasn’t been updated in 6 months so I’m not sure if it’s compatible with the latest
   version of WordPress.
 * Thoughts?

 * Well, it is compatible with WordPress 5.5.x, so that’s not the problem.
 * So if I understand correctly the plugin remains active, but when going to the
   setting page some settings have changed again, but not immediately? so it works
   and then after x hours or days it does not any more? and has this happened repeatably?

 * After install it stayed active for a day. I ran a page speed test and it did
   the job, doubling the speed score. Now, when I check it the JavaScript optimization
   says disabled. I try to enable it, resave the settings, but will not stay enabled.

 * my money is on a plugin conflict of some kind brodezign, if you’re up for it
   you could disable other plugins (and if needed switch themes briefly) and see
   if settings do “take” in that case and then re-enable plugins one at a time keeping
   an eye on resulting source HTML (which should have “defer” or “async” multiple
   times)?
