Enable Media Replace not always replacing

  • We’re running Enable Media Replace 2.4.1 on WP 3.2.1, but I’m getting reports that content is not always getting replaced properly. Any ideas on what to look at to get this figured out?

  • Hello,

I’d like to know more. What type of content is not being replaced? Are there any error messages? Are the permissions on the files correct?

They are typically PDF files. No error messages. I’m not sure about permissions on the files, but I don’t think that would be the issue.

PDF files are iffy sometimes, but should work given the versions you are running.

Please check file permissions on the files, to make sure that the web server has write access to the files.

Dumb question, but how do I check permissions on the files?

You need to get access to FTP or shell for the web server and check the owner and group of the files, and the chmod for the files.

Typically the permissions would get messed up if you reinstall or move a web site, but it could happen for other reasons as well.

If you need more help, check with your web server operator.

Permissions are set up as rwxrwxr-x. Someone recalled getting the following message when trying to update a file: “File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.” I searched for that phrase and found this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/, but it appears they’re using an acceptable file type. Any idea what could cause that error message?

This is correct, and is an issue that was addressed in Enable Media Replace 2.6. Please update your plugin.

Will the latest version work with WP 3.2.1?

Because of our environment, we can’t simply click “Update automatically”. Will replacing the old files with the new files via FTP, update the plugin properly?

Best approach is to disable the plugin, delete the entire folder via FTP, reload plugins in WP to see that it’s gone, then install the new plugin folder via FTP and activate.

    Thanks, Måns.

Until we get the new version installed, is there a workaround?

    Unfortunately, no.
