Enable gzip compression for certain files?
-
(I am not sure why this post isn’t showing. Maybe they think it’s spam? I it up yesterday, and am TRYing to again now because but I am afraid it was posted in the wrong area. Sorry if there is repetition)
I want to know How to enable gzip compression for certain files? Also, how do I test to check to be sure that it’s working? I did verify with my host and they say gzip is supported if I enable it.
I have ticked the box in W3TC for “Enable HTTP (gzip) compression,” saved it and done nothing else. (Am I missing something? ~like a plugin or something?)
Page Speed in Chrome scores 80 and shows about 20 files displayed (samples below) after a red-buttoned message: “Enable compression – Compressing the following resources with gzip could reduce their transfer size by 210.6KiB (73% reduction).”
I am quite new at this. I am using WP 3.1.3, Polished theme from Elegant Themes, W3 Total Cache 0.9.2.3, WordPress SEO 0.4.2, on a Windows 7 x64 machine and have shared hosting using Linux/Apache. Page Speed in Chrome is 80. Page load time: 12 seconds.
TIA
