why are these folders created?
These folders are created one per user and used for User profile and cover photos.
@missveronicatv O’m not making use of user cover photos, or profile pictures, can they be deleted? I think these folders should be created when neeeded, i.e when a user tries to upload something, not before the fact

The “ultimate-member” folder in the uploads directory is used to store files related to the Ultimate Member plugin and its extensions. The plugin creates a subfolder for each user after registration. These sub-folders are used to store personal files:
- cover photo and its thumbnails;
- profile photo and its thumbnails;
- images uploaded via the “Image Upload” fields;
- files uploaded via the “File Upload” files;
- images uploaded to the activity wall or group discussion wall.
The plugin creates subfolders after registration to avoid an issue when the server can not create a folder on uploading because of security settings or other reasons. This is a rare issue, but this can happen. Empty folders do not take up much space on the server.
You can delete empty folders if you need to do this. Be careful, don’t delete folders with files.

Thanks @yuriinalivaiko It’s just that I don’t plan to use these features(I have custom profile templates) so I was wondering why there are so many empty folders
