• Hi,

I’m having a backend issue: I updated my webspace to PHP 7.2 yesterday, and now WPBakery Page Builder is not working anymore. It’s NOT that Gutenberg thing, it’s disabled. My WordPress, my plugins and the lizenced page builder are up to date.

Everything looks fine at first glimpse, but when I now want to edit any elements, the element box is just white: I cant edit text, I can’t change an image … I can add elements, but only empty ones without content or settings.

    Here’s a screenshot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/NHx54KeoYxyhk2GL8

I already tried to deactivate all my plugins – didn’t work.
I tried PHP error logs – nothing.
I tried the Firefox web developer tool – nope.

I’m really glad if anyone can give me a hint what to do.
    Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Seeing as your using a premium paid for theme, and that WPB usually comes with those themes, you are better off contacting the author’s of those themes on ThemeForest.net

Premium theme’s an WPB are not supported in this forum

No, it’s a customized theme of my friend’s ex web developer (not hired anymore) I do not know in person. It has nothing to do with ThemeForest.net as far as I know. The theme is named “DOK” like the brand of the magazine …

Ok, this Newspaper is really look-alike. Maybe he just created a child theme … I need to check , thank you @stef

They might have, but even if they did it runs mostly with the Parent theme which would be calling the shots as well. In that case you probably aren’t entitled to support over there either.

Let me take another quick look. Make sure all your plugins are up to date and your theme as well.

I do see that your copy of VC is way outdated. We’re at 6.0.3 now. I’d try updated that and go from there.

Hm, how do you see that?
My plugin list tells me that I do have 6.0.3 … I already checked.
    Now I’m confused! 🙂

In the meantime I found, that there is really this “newspaper” theme (not active) and dokmagazin.de is running a child theme. “Newspaper” needed to be updated so I did … and crashed the whole site! Luckily I had a backup inculding themes … But the Page Builder worked after this update, *grin*! So I guess I can close this topic to solve the next problem … How to update the original theme without destroying the child.

Sorry. I was looking at an older version of site. Ugh.

So, the parent theme should always be updated, maybe you know that, not sure. The child if customized should have its bugs fixed before updating everything.

Turn on debug mode in your config file. There’s also a new plugin called Health Check that might offer some insight to what’s exactly wrong. 😁

I know that but I didn’t realize that it’s a child theme running … I just kind of “adopted” the site … I thought it’s only an old, unused theme like the WP twentysomethings. I try tomorrow, what you wrote – thanks for your kind support!

From what I can tell it appears they’re both Themeforest themes. No clue how accurate that is though. They could have used a child theme generator and named it something different.

Best of luck. Need anything else let us know.
