Empty category pages as Custom Home Page / Conflict with Polylang

    We do often observe the following error:

    All our category top pages are suddenly empty, i.e. the first top link “Programm 2019” https://www.hanfparade.de/programm-route/

    When logged in as admin, those empty pages are indicated as “Home Page” by Site Origin in the top bar. However, we do not use the Custom Home Page function at all, it is deactivated.

    Our workaround: Activating and deactivating “Custom Home Page” does not help. However, deactivating and activating the Polylang plugin (and clearing the Cache if active) does help.

    However this is not a solution. The problem occurs every now and then at unregular times. I guess this is a problem with the Custom Home Page function, so I am starting the thread here, but maybe @chouby has to help.

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

    To simplify things, leave Appearance > Home Page disabled and don’t edit at that location. Only edit your home page via the Pages menu. If Appearance > Home Page is ON and you turn it OFF you’ll then need to go to Settings > Reading and assign your static home page again.

    If you leave Appearance > Home Page OFF and don’t edit via that location, then there shouldn’t be any periodic changes, it would take human intervention to alter that functionality.

    We haven’t encountered this issue in the past. I also can’t imagine what might be causing it. When the problem occurs again, go to Settings > Reading and check which page is assigned as your static home page. Please, let me know how that check goes the next time this occurs. Thanks.
