Embeds Stopped Working
-
Hi Team,
After the last update, my web stories have disappeared from the pages where they were embedded – even from the page source!
Here are a random page with two embedded stories
https://www.russiandog.net/russian-dog-namesand a random post with one story
https://www.russiandog.net/what-should-i-name-my-male-saint-bernard-dog.htmlPlease advise.

@artfl Hi there,
Thanks for your report! It does appear the Story is in the page source code. The issue you reported is actually an issue that has been raised with the AMP project directly which is a bug with amp-story-player itself: https://github.com/ampproject/amphtml/issues/34271
Please feel free to subscribe to that ticket for any updates, but we’ll be sure to follow up with you here as well.
Just noticed my site is suffering from this problem too.
Hi Luckyna,
Thank you for your response.
Yes, there is a link to the story’s url but there are no embed codes!
On the page https://www.russiandog.net/russian-dog-names I used two different codes for two different stories.
The first code is for the classic editor:
[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.russiandog.net/web-stories/russian-dog-names-male” title=”Male Russian Dog Names” poster=”https://www.russiandog.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Russian-Borzoi-dog-head-640×853.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]The second code is for the block editor:
<!-- wp:web-stories/embed {"blockType":"url","url":"https://www.russiandog.net/web-stories/russian-dog-names-female","title":"Female Russian Dog Names","poster":"https://www.russiandog.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/cropped-Russian-dog-names-Poster.jpg"} --> <div class="wp-block-web-stories-embed alignnone"><a href="https://www.russiandog.net/web-stories/russian-dog-names-female"><img src="https://www.russiandog.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/cropped-Russian-dog-names-Poster.jpg" alt="Female Russian Dog Names" width="360" height="600" /></a></div> <!-- /wp:web-stories/embed -->
I don’t see either of them in the page source. Shouldn’t they be there?
@artfl Thank you for your update and helpful additional details. We were able to reproduce the issue and will work towards a resolution in this GitHub ticket. In the meantime, you can embed your stories using these other Web Stories blocks. We’ll be sure to follow up with any updates!
Hi @luckynasan I use classic editor and my embeds are not working either
Hi Luckyna,
Thank you for your update.
Hope the problem will be solved soon because I’m using the classic editor too πAbsolutely! We’ll keep you posted.
Hi @luckynasan just wondering if there is any update on this embeds issues?
Thanks
any update on this embeds issues?
There’s no update. The only new thing I can say is that the embeds have stopped working only on regular pages but they are still working on AMP pages.
I meant from the plug-in developers
We’re actively working on fixing this issue! Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Many thanks for the update @swissspidy, any idea of any ETA?
Cheers
We’re planning on releasing a new plugin update next week.
The goal is to have this issue fixed in that release.
Thanks @swissspidy, I reverted back to 1.11.0 (since 1.12.0 also has site breaking bugs) and everything seems to be working fine now.
