• I’m confused about embedding videos in WordPress posts. WordPress seems to strip out my perfectly good video-embed HTML. Is there some reason I can’t include whatever code I want? How can I embed videos from YouTube, Vimeo and Flickr in my WordPress blog, which is hosted on my own hosting account?

Thanks very much in advance for any help!

    Patty

  • You CANNOT embed videos from within the visual editor – nor can you embed them from the Code editor and then go bacl to the visual editor before posting. Just use the entire YT “embed” code in the Code editor and then publish. Also note if you need to edit or manage a file later, after posting, if your default editor is Visual it will strip the code and the video will no longer work. It is best to disable the Visual editor entirely and just go with the Code editor. It will also help you to learn basic HTML coding – an added bonus.

My users have the same problem — except all of them have the “Disable Visual Editor” box checked. Even with the Code/HTML editor, *ALL* video embed code is stripped out when the post is published.

This is a new problem. I recently upgraded from WP 2.3 to 2.7, and that’s when the problems started.

All of my users are “Authors.” The interesting thing is that with my Admin account, embedding video still works fine.

Any ideas? This is driving me crazy, because my site worked just fine before the upgrade. I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

This is apparently a regular problem with 2.7. I have nothing to add because I neither upgraded to 2.7 nor intend to. In fact my version is a few versions old and I have none of the problems I see regularly with 2.6 and up.

I don’t know if any of the Mods on here have the capability to advise the developers that this is a problem (I suspect they do) – but if they can they should.

I cannot believe after many versions this problem continues. I don’t understand how this functionality has not been changed, the TinyMCE/Visual interface still does not properly handle embedded videos. I wish there were more focus on this type of simple functionality issue rather than to redesign the Admin again.

The code view works for me but not unsavvy web users. There are widgets that help you handle it better, but to me in a 2009 blogging solution, there should be a better way to handle embedded videos, especially when all that is required is a copy and paste.

My authors privileged writers are having the same difficulty in html mode too. They have the wysiwyg entirely disabled in their preferences. I have confirmed they are seeing the posts in html mode and it seems upon publishing the embed code is stripped.

For some reason this is a problem for Authors or lower on the “roles” list. Editors and Admins don’t have this problem. I’m sure there’s a fix, what it is I don’t know.

I have this problem on a WP I am not admin on. I am ok on the one I admin. I did have to get the vodpod plugin for a Funny or Die vid on mine. I just want to be able to paste in code on the HTML, people! I’m about to switch over a bigger site of mine but I’m worried about doing this with video embedding issues. Will it be fixed in future versions? I have 2.8.
