 * Would it be possible to run wordpress as a script embedded in an already-built
   webpage? I’d like to do something like tumblr’s embedding script or (how I hear)
   blogger can work.
 * I’d like to have a minimalistic blog-type functionality for front-page updates,
   but I don’t want to build the whole site in wordpress. And I’d like to do it
   without going through a third-party site, and have it directly on the server.
 * Is this at all possible with wordpress, or should I look elsewhere?

 * You can install WordPress in it’s own directory and call functions from WordPress
   on a non WordPress/static site. Take a look at the [codex](http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page#Integrating_WordPress)
 * If you just need blogposts to appear on a static site you could use an rss parser
   such as [simplepie](http://simplepie.org/) to achieve this.
