When I embed videos in my website page they appear as static images/iframes. When they are clicked on they don’t play or have any interaction at all.

This occurs with the Youtube and Vimeo videos, if I use the /video embed or /videopress /Vimeo or /YouTube boxes they all have the same problem.

The videos will play on the backend in Gutenberg when I fist add them in the compose screen. But they don’t respond when published.

This could be caused by anything in my stack from caching to the theme to my own browser so I have tried everything that I can, turning off caching, changing the theme, and using a different browser on different computers. So far none have helped. Any ideas?

  • Both videos play fine for me.

    Have you fixed it?

Thanks Alan, yeah I fixed it last night.

    It was a theme problem.

For some reason the genesis theme framework stylesheet made the .embed{z-index=-9999} which made it impossible to click. I simply removed that rule and it works fine. Hopefully it doesn’t break something else.
