    Dear reader,

I have used the Seriously Simple Podcasting with a lot of pleasure over the past months. However since recently the episodes that I have embedded on my pages (like: https://ririro.com/the-little-match-girl/) do not play. The current error code can be observed in Console:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘querySelectorAll’ of null
    at castos-player.js?ver=313c165c42d590a051b94972e40ed248:2
    at NodeList.forEach (<anonymous>)
    at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> (castos-player.js?ver=313c165c42d590a051b94972e40ed248:2)

I have updated to version 2.8.2. Cleared my cache. Updated the player in WP admin, but the issue persists. I’d be happy to learn whether I can do something on my end or whether this is a bug that will need a fix on your end.

    Kind regards,
    Pim

    Hi @ririro,

We do have a bug with regards to the Castos Player Gutenberg block.

We’re actively investigating this and working to get this resolved as soon as possible. In the interim, you could try to use our episode shortcode (https://support.castos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018867380-podcast-episode-Shortcode), but I know that’s not ideal because that doesn’t affect all previous posts with the Castos Player Block player on it.

Thank you @keleigh824 for the reply. I will patiently wait in that case. Hope it can be resolved in the nearby future. Wishing you a great day.

    Hi @ririro,

I just followed up with our developer and unfortunately with the way Gutenberg works with regards to blocks, it doesn’t update certain things even with a version change. That’s what’s happening here. A new Castos Player block has been added to avoid this problem in the future and the previous block is now deprecated but still available, should be titled Castos Player (Old). Unfortunately, we can’t make the plugin go back and automatically update your previous posts that have the now deprecated Castos Player block use the new Castos Player block, this would all have to be done manually on your end.

I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience here.

@keleigh824 No problem. Thank you for the information. I’m happy the issue can be resolved this way. I do have one follow up question: when manually updating I always just receive the last 10 podcast episodes as option. Also the Edit as HTML function shows up empty. I therefore have difficulty updating older posts. Is there anything I can do to mitigate this?

In case more people experience this problem: I found a workaround.

    1. Temporarily update the release date of your podcast episode to a recent moment to include it in the last 10 episodes that are shown in the edit mode
    2. Change from the old block to the new block in the post where the episode is embedded
    3. Change back the release date

    Thanks again for the support.

    @ririro,

I apologize for the delay. We have replicated the issue on our side as well and it will be resolved in a future update.

Thanks so much for sharing the work-around!
