I prefer to self-host my videos to give the highest audio quality (320 kbps) in them. Does Baskerville support embedding self-hosted mp4 videos and vertical ones too in the video format? Vertical videos are becoming so popular on IGTV and TikTok and even on Facebook. So please kindly add support for embedding them in the home page grid. And also self-hosted .m4a audios in the home page grid for the audio format please. Thanks again for creating and maintaining such a feature-rich theme.

    Hi @nitaaikumar,

Embedding video (selfhosted or not, in any aspect ratio) and audio files should work without any issues. Getting the videos to display on the archive page takes some doing, but you can find instructions for it in this thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/video-post-in-baskervile-does-not-show-video-on-hompage/

Self-hosted vertical videos are not showing up at all if I put the .mp4 video url instead of the youtube url or the full hmtl5 video code in the sequence you mentioned. So I just put the whole html5 video video embed code in the excerpts after switching on html excerpts as per your code. That will do for me I guess.

If you will be interested, I will show you what is happening with this when I will launch a public site in a week. Thanks.

@nitaaikumar Sorry, I thought the function used for the embeds would handle regular video file URLs as well, but that turns out not to be the case. I might take a look at adding support for output of self-hosted videos in a future update, but happy to hear that it works with the apply_filters( 'the_content', get_the_excerpt() ) adjustment mentioned in the other thread for now.
