Support » Fixing WordPress » Embed and iframe not working

  • Hi,

I do not seem to be able to embed flash objects on my blog without using the [embed] shortcode. So Vimeo and Youtube seem to work okay with that, but when I try to embed from other sources such as SoundOwl or Bandcamp, I just get a blank space where the flash player should be.
Strangely enough, I use a Zippyshare embed plugin that allows me to use the [zippyshare] shortcode instead of copy-pasting the embed code, and using the shortcode is the only way that Zippyshare embeds will work even though all it does is use some javascript to substitute that for the full embed code. But other plug-ins that produce flash players do not work…

Also, I’ve tried installing several different iframe plugins, but all of them cause the same problem: just a blank space appears where the iframe is supposed to be.

It’s almost as if my blog is somehow imposing the same restrictions as

    WordPress: Version 3.2.1
    Theme: Oulipo version

I’ve also tried deactivating all plug-ins and the problem remains, so I cant tell what might be causing it.

    Thanks for your help,

  • You may want to review Embeds.

From what I understand, that applies to automatic embedding. But that doesn’t tell me why I still come up with a blank space when I paste the full embed code into the HTML editor.

I’ve tried at least 5 different plugins that put in flash players for mp3 files, and none of these work.

And I’ve also tried using 3 different plug-ins that are supposed to add support for iframes, but I also get the same issue that I just end up with a blank space.

Is there a larger issue that could be causing this? Such as a problem in the latest WP version or in the Oulipo theme?

If the embed codes you’re using include javascript, that might explain the problem.

I dont believe thats the problem.

I just tried embedding a youtube video using the full embed code copy-pasted into the WordPress HTML editor directly from the youtube site – same problem. It only works when I auto-embed it. As far as I can tell, the code does not contain any JS. I’ve included it here in case I’m wrong about that:

    <object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Are you switching to the Visual tab at any point? Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Yes! It must be a problem with the theme because Twenty Eleven works.

    Thank you for your help!

I’ve just started using this theme (Oulipo, and find that embedded media does not display correctly. Using the WordPress automated method of just dropping the link in the “Embed Media” popup just inserts the URL with no media. Copying the direct embed code into the HTML editor for a post leaves a large blank space on the front-end when the post is published, where the video should appear, but no video actually appears.

If I switch to a different theme, everything displays correctly, so this is obviously a theme issue. Anyone know what’s preventing the proper display of embedded media in this theme? Or know what code needs to be added/modified in the theme to solve this problem?
