  • @emarr,

    Whoever you spoke to is talking rubbish.

    GoDaddy DO have limits, they even publish them on their own Support site.

    THere are also well known issues with Subscribe2 and GoDaddy that have been discussed before, have a try of the suggestions discussed and try talking to GoDaddy again and direct them to the threads below:

    Thanks for the quick response! I tried to explain it to them on my last call with them and they seem to have gotten a bit irritated with me (which is a first for me with GoDaddy). I’m pretty sure that my client is not very open to switching and I’m wondering if there is a work around available? I tried SMTP with no luck and even tried to use GoDaddy’s SMTP server but I get a spam error in the debugger…

    🙂 They’d be irritated with me too if they were talking utter nonsense. If they say they have no limits how do they counter spam?

    The only suggestions I’ve got are:
    – Make sure to set the number of recipients per email to 1.
    – Make sure to send the emails so they are coming from an email on the same domain as the blog (so something like and make sure that address actually exists with a mailbox on a GoDaddy server.
    – Get GoDaddy to make sure their ‘flag’ isn’t on for your domain – that means all emails will get blocked.
    – Consider a plugin the can throttle mail and send say 100 per hour. I write one (WPMQ) but I believe there are other options.

    Thanks again. So I decided to troubleshoot by installing the plugin on another blog I use that is also hosted by GoDaddy and I’m able to get the test email template emails just fine. Since Subscribe2 had been working perfectly for the first few months and seems to have stopped right after upgrading WordPress and the plugin could it have been broken somehow due to the upgrade?

    There is perhaps a very slim chance that the plugin settings have gotten corrupted. I can’t seem to find a pattern that causes this but the cure is this:

    1/ Make a careful, manual note of all of the current settings, maybe cut and paste the templates out into a text document.
    2/ In Subscribe2->Settings click Reset to clear and re-initilise all of the Settings
    3/ Re-apply all of the settings you noted down in Step 1.

    Actually this quick bit code will return true if the setting is okay and false if it isn’t.

    global $wpdb;
    $sql = "SELECT option_value FROM $wpdb->options WHERE option_name LIKE '%subscribe2_option%'";
    $option = $wpdb->get_results($sql);
    echo "<pre>";
    echo "</pre>";

    I’m starting to think the issue goes a bit deeper than the plugin since I’m not able to send out emails of any kind from WordPress. I don’t get comment emails, new user emails, or even password reset emails. It’s like they all are sent to some mysterious black hole.

    I think you are absolutely right. I suspect GoDaddy have ‘flagged’ the account and it is now debarred for sending of any emails. You need to speak to someone at GoDaddy and preferably someone who knows what they’re doing.
