  • Hi there,

I’ve just tried the form with a completely wrong code and I received the expected message. ‘Sorry the code wasn’t entered correctly please try again.’.

Sometimes google recaptcha will allow a slightly difference answer through.

Are you sure that email is working correctly on your site? I have just sent you a test message now that you should have received OK.

Another option is to ditch recaptcha and use the akismet spam filtering plugin. If this plugin is detected the contact form will filter all form input for spam.

Thank you, Meg. I received your test message.

Strangely, I now find that ReCaptcha will let messages go through even though there are errors in the code, even if 2 digits are wrong. I didn’t test it further to see just how much error it will allow. Previously, it was refusing to deliver messages with a single transposed digit, and one of my students in Japan was completely unable to contact me on more than one occasion, even though he claimed to have entered all the digits correctly.

Since I can’t tolerate this uncertainty, and since I already have Akismet installed on my site, I will follow your suggestion and get rid of ReCaptcha. If I have a problem with spam in the future, I may reconsider this decision.

Thanks again for a great plug-in and for your prompt response!

    Good decision.

I think the point of the google recaptcha is that google is trying to get a consensus on what the word is on the picture. So it will sometimes accept something that appears to be slightly incorrect.

I have taken the recaptcha off my contact form here and it works really well. I never get any spam through. Plus it’s far less annoying to fill in!

I’m going to mark this thread resolved. If you get any issues using Akismet with this plugin please start another thread.

    Thanks, Meg
