When I submit a test question through that page, I do not receive an email notification. I have checked to make sure that the settings say I will receive an email, and I have tested it on two emails. I have also had coworkers send a question in on a different computer that is not logged in to WP. None of these changes resulted in me receiving a notification email. I have checked my spam folders.

  • Hello christinesnwcm,

Do you currently have your emails configured to send via an external SMTP server? We just use the normal wp_mail() function to send the emails. With this in mind, we often recommend that you use a plugin like WP Mail SMTP to rout the automatic emails that WordPress sends via your external email host, which gives you more control over where and whom it’s sending from.

Thanks for the response. I’m not sure how our website is configured to send emails – it was built for us by a designer. Any info on how to check that setting? I’m trying not to add too many superfluous plugins.

    Hi Christine,

In this case, I’d suggest contacting your hosting company (and say something like “my WordPress site isn’t sending out email notifications”) to see if maybe they can change something on their end or have any suggestions.
