It is possible that emails are going to your Spam/Junk folder. If not then, follow these instructions.
First, please verify that emails are working for your website. If the WordPress default emails are working. Then please deactivate all other plugins and revert to default theme. Then reactivate them one by one to isolate the issue.

Yes, you can use any good SMTP plugin from WordPress.org. Since this issue is not because of the SJB plugin but the cause is probably your hosting or site environment.
