email not sent to s2member roles

Hello,
I’ve noticed that if I deselect “subscriber” from the roles in the plugin settings, then the users with any s2member role, won’t receive the email..
it’s weird because the s2member roles are all selected, and also I don’t allow free subscribtions, so none of them have ever been “subscriber”, but they all started with “s2member_level1”..
the problem is that in my scenario, the “subscriber” role is just for people who has unsubscribed from the services, so I definitely don’t want to include them in the email notification, but if I deselect “subscriber” then nobody else will receive the email..
do you have any idea or suggestion?
