• Hi:
I’m the admin of an intranet (Simple Intranet) in which only employees have access. All users have bios (which are posts) with comment function below the bios. Looking for plug-in that will notify the user if a comment by another employee is posted, as well as email the commenter if additional comments are posted. Installed your plug-in and everything seems to be set properly, and the test email function is working properly, but no emails are being sent. I see myself in subscriptions, etc. All other email functionality on the site works (we worked thru the phishing blocks) and Settings/Discussions is setup to permit emails via comments. Any suggestions? Happy to send screenshots. Thanks, Fred

  • @fgaston If you could provide a few links to screenshots, that would be very helpful, yes.

We’re releasing a new version later this week (see the release candidate announcement) and it contains many bug fixes, so it’s possible that you’re seeing a bug and this new version will fix the issue.

Thanks Raam. To install the RC, do I have to delete the current version, and if so will I lose current settings?

@fgaston Yes, you’ll need to delete the current version before installing the RC, however you won’t lose any settings so long as Data Safeguards are enabled, which is the default (see Comment Mail → Config. Options → Data Safeguards).

Thanks, I got the RC installed, however now the subscription box at the bottom of each comment/reply is gone, and email is no longer working again. Is that controlled in setup?

Also, by chance can your program replace the standard WP comment/reply form to allow posting of pictures (without having to embed a url?

    Thanks, Fred

    Raam:
I figured why subscription box was missing in config, however when I click on either manage my subscriptions or subscribe without commenting, I get a white page. The link to the latter is: http://intranet.bbinsny.com/?comment_mail%5Bmanage%5D%5Bsub_new%5D=0&comment_mail%5Bmanage%5D%5Bsub_form%5D%5Bpost_id%5D=502. Any thoughts?

Also, what is the impact of adding roles to Auto Subscribe the Following WP Roles? So if I add subscriber, every subscriber will be automatically subscribed to all posts?

Lastly, Comment Mail imported all my users & automatically subscribed them to every comment, which led to too many emails going out. Will my registered users be able to subscribe on a post by post basis without me importing them?

    Thanks, Fred

can your program replace the standard WP comment/reply form to allow posting of pictures (without having to embed a url?

@fgaston No, sorry, Comment Mail is not designed to replace the commenting form itself in any way.

when I click on either manage my subscriptions or subscribe without commenting, I get a white page.

That’s due to a known bug in the Release Candidate; see the reported issues section here: https://github.com/websharks/comment-mail/issues/278

The issue has been fixed in the dev branch and the general availability release that goes out soon will have that issue fixed.

what is the impact of adding roles to Auto Subscribe the Following WP Roles? So if I add subscriber, every subscriber will be automatically subscribed to all posts?

All users who have one of the listed Roles will be auto-subscribed to all comments/replies for every new post automatically. So, if you added a new subscriber and then published a new post, the subscriber (and all other existing users with the subscriber role) would be automatically subscribed to any comments on that new post.

Comment Mail imported all my users & automatically subscribed them to every comment, which led to too many emails going out.

Where was it importing the users from? Comment Mail should only ever “auto-subscribe” users if 1) you have Auto-Subscribe enabled and 2) you specify a list of WordPress Roles to auto-subscribe.

Or are you referring to existing subscriptions being imported from the Subscribe to Comments Reloaded plugin?

I just want to make sure you’re not seeing a new bug that we haven’t seen.

Will my registered users be able to subscribe on a post by post basis without me importing them?

Yes, registered users can subscribe to comments on a post-by-post basis by either leaving a comment on the post and choosing a subscription options, or selecting the “Subscribe without commenting” link. I’m not sure what you mean by “without importing them”…
