Email field changed – wrong email field is used

I added a new section “Contact Details” which has the customer’s email address with meta name _before_customer_details_email. The usual email address is _billing_email. That field was disabled since I have the other field for the email. However, _billing_email is used in various ways and I need the _before_customer_details_email to be an alias of _billing_email. Please tell me the best way to accomplish this. Thanks!
